1. Project Overview
Project Name: Comsys ADF Active Harmonic Filter – Ba Na Hills Resort
Project Summary: PowerMore conducted a comprehensive harmonic survey and assessment of the electrical system serving the Ba Na Hills cable car system, followed by the deployment of the Comsys ADF active harmonic filtering solution. The solution was designed to mitigate current and voltage distortion, improve power factor, and enhance the overall operational stability of the electrical system at Station 6, Ba Na Hills.
Industry / Sector: Resort & Tourism / Cable Car System / Power Quality
Project Type: Active Harmonic Filtering and Reactive Power Compensation
Location: Station 6 – Ba Na Hills
Implementation Date: May 2016

2. PowerMore’s Scope of Work
For this project, PowerMore was responsible for the following key activities:
- Conducting a harmonic survey of the Ba Na Hills cable car electrical system.
- Performing electrical measurements at the transformer and diesel generator sets at Cable Car Station 6.
- Providing technical consultancy on harmonic mitigation and reactive power compensation.
- Installing and commissioning the Comsys ADF active harmonic filtering system.
- Evaluating system performance and effectiveness after commissioning.
3. Project Highlights & Business Value
During the site survey, PowerMore’s harmonic specialists and technical consulting team identified severe harmonic distortion within the Ba Na Hills cable car electrical system. The issue was causing significant current and voltage waveform distortion, negatively affecting power quality, operational reliability, and equipment lifespan.

Measurements conducted by PowerMore at the transformer and diesel generator sets at Cable Car Station 6 showed that harmonic distortion levels, as well as current and voltage fluctuations, were significantly higher than the limits specified under Circular No. 32/2010/TT-BCT issued by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.
In May 2016, PowerMore successfully installed and commissioned the Comsys ADF harmonic filtering and reactive power compensation system. Following implementation, total harmonic distortion in both current and voltage was reduced to levels that met or exceeded the requirements specified under Circular No. 32/2010/TT-BCT.
The system power factor was improved from approximately 0.6–0.7 to 0.95. This improvement enabled Ba Na Hills to avoid substantial monthly penalties associated with low power factor while also enhancing the overall efficiency of the electrical system.
Performance of the standby generators at Station 6 was also significantly improved following the installation of the ADF system. The cable car system was able to operate at a pulling speed of 5.5 m/s, equivalent to 100% rated capacity, compared with the previous unstable operating range of approximately 3–4 m/s, or around 50% capacity.
In addition, the ADF system effectively eliminated incidents involving capacitor bank failures and related electrical damage at Station 6. The project demonstrated the effectiveness of combining active harmonic filtering with reactive power compensation to improve power quality, reduce operational risks, protect electrical equipment, and enhance long-term system reliability.
PowerMore was also the first company to introduce and install the Comsys ADF solution in Central Vietnam, marking an important milestone in the adoption of advanced power quality solutions in the region.
