Project Overview
In the food and beverage industry, where production lines operate continuously 24/7, power quality has a direct impact on equipment reliability, production continuity, and operating costs. Even a short electrical disturbance can result in significant losses, particularly at highly automated manufacturing facilities.
At one of Vietnam’s leading dairy companies, which operates a network of manufacturing facilities across multiple regions, power quality became an increasingly critical concern as the company prepared for the reassessment of its ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification.
On-site measurements showed that Total Harmonic Distortion in current (THDi) and voltage (THDv) exceeded the permissible limits specified under Circular 05/2025/BCT in several areas.
Project Information:
| Category | Thông tin |
|---|---|
| Industry | Food & Beverage (F&B) |
| Locations | Thanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City |
| Project Type | Power quality improvement and harmonic mitigation for F&B manufacturing facilities |
| Equipment | Revcon RHF Active Harmonic Filters |
| Applicable Standards | IEEE 519, Circular 05/2025/BCT |
The primary sources of harmonic distortion were identified as variable frequency drives (VFDs), air compressors, filling lines, and highly automated processing systems.
These conditions not only affected equipment lifetime and voltage stability but also created potential risks for ISO compliance, increased maintenance requirements, and threatened the continuity of production operations.
PowerMore’s Scope of Work
Recognizing the importance of harmonic control in F&B manufacturing environments, PowerMore worked closely with the plant engineering teams from the initial survey and measurement stages through root-cause analysis and solution design for each load area.
PowerMore’s scope of work included:
- Conducting comprehensive power quality surveys at the manufacturing facilities
- Performing measurements at main electrical panels and critical load areas
- Identifying and analyzing the sources of harmonic distortion
- Designing harmonic mitigation solutions tailored to individual load zones
- Supplying Revcon RHF Active Harmonic Filter systems
- Implementing a multi-point harmonic filtering architecture across different load areas
- Fine-tuning system parameters at each installation point
- Conducting post-installation testing and commissioning
- Providing ongoing technical support and periodic maintenance after commissioning
Rather than applying a single centralized configuration across the entire electrical system, PowerMore implemented Revcon Active Harmonic Filters using a multi-point architecture, allowing the solution to respond more effectively to the highly dynamic load characteristics typically found in F&B production environments.
The system was designed in accordance with IEEE 519 and Circular 05/2025/BCT, with filter capacities ranging from 55A to 750A, distributed across filling lines, processing areas, compressed-air systems, and main distribution boards.
PowerMore engineers also performed on-site parameter tuning at each installation point to maximize harmonic mitigation performance without disrupting production capacity or plant operations.
Following commissioning, PowerMore continued to support the plant engineering teams with system monitoring, technical consultation, troubleshooting, and scheduled maintenance.

Project Highlights & Business Value
Following installation and commissioning, independent measurements demonstrated significant reductions in both THDi and THDv across four manufacturing facilities.
The resulting power quality performance met the applicable requirements of Circular 05/2025/BCT and IEEE 519.
Representative deployment results included the following.
Thanh Hoa Dairy Plant
This facility included multiple loads with high levels of harmonic distortion.
PowerMore installed Revcon Active Harmonic Filter systems at multiple locations throughout the plant, significantly reducing harmonic distortion and improving overall voltage stability.
According to project measurement data, THDi was reduced by more than 90%, with reductions reaching up to 96% after installation.

Ho Chi Minh City Dairy Plant 01
At this facility, air compressors were identified as one of the primary sources of harmonic distortion. Following deployment of the harmonic mitigation solution, post-installation measurements showed a substantial improvement in THDi levels. According to project data, THDi reduction reached up to 95%.

Ho Chi Minh City Dairy Plant 02
Before implementation, harmonic distortion levels at this facility did not meet the requirements specified under Circular 05/2025/BCT.
PowerMore deployed a 600A Active Harmonic Filter system across four main electrical distribution panels, providing harmonic mitigation for filling lines, processing systems, and other critical areas of the plant.
Post-installation measurements showed that THDi was reduced by up to 95%, based on the project data provided.

Beverage Plant
At this facility, areas with variable frequency drives showed high levels of harmonic distortion that required mitigation to maintain acceptable power quality.
Following the installation of a 300A Revcon Active Harmonic Filter, project measurements showed that THDi was reduced by up to 95%.

Across the different deployment locations, the project delivered several key technical and operational benefits:
- Supported power quality requirements for the ISO 50001 reassessment process
- Helped ensure compliance with Circular 05/2025/BCT and IEEE 519
- Improved the stability of 24/7 F&B production operations
- Reduced the risk of VFD faults and unexpected production line shutdowns
- Reduced electrical losses associated with poor power quality
- Helped lower maintenance requirements and related costs
- Contributed to extending equipment service life
- Improved the reliability of the plant’s internal electrical distribution system
- Provided greater long-term operational confidence through ongoing technical support and periodic maintenance
The project also demonstrates that harmonic mitigation should not be viewed as an isolated electrical engineering requirement. For modern F&B manufacturers, it can form an important part of a broader strategy for operational reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainable manufacturing.
For facilities operating continuously with high levels of nonlinear loads and strict requirements for production availability, maintaining high power quality is a fundamental condition for sustaining operational efficiency.
“In the F&B industry, there is little room for power quality risks. Every reduction in harmonic distortion represents another step toward more reliable, sustainable, and energy-efficient operations.” — PowerMore Expert
The successful implementation of this project demonstrates that harmonic mitigation can deliver long-term value by helping manufacturers reduce operational risks, improve system reliability, and strengthen the electrical infrastructure required for sustainable growth.
PowerMore supports F&B manufacturing facilities in improving power quality and aligning their electrical systems with both Vietnamese and international power quality and energy management requirements.
